Year 3 BLOG 13th March 2020
Science week has been a blast!
This week, we have had a special focus on Science across the school and all of the children have been given plenty of opportunities to take part in several exciting science experiments and investigations. On Thursday morning, Year 3 took part in a science workshop with an external provider which they all thoroughly enjoyed! I am sure many of you will have seen the slime they came home with yesterday. During the day, both classes also carried out several investigations involving magnets and different materials. Do ask your child to tell you all about what they have learnt!
Having come to the end of our fractions unit in maths, we have moved on to learning about measure this week - specifically measuring and comparing length. This has also involved some conversion of lengths from cm to mm and vice-versa which some of us found a little tricky! I'm sure the children will master this by the time we complete our work on measure in a few week's time.
We have continued with our letter writing topic in English this week, having a go at writing some of our own short, informal letters based on 'The Day the Crayons Quit' as well as beginning to consider the features of formal letters and how these may differ from the informal letters we have looked at so far. Next week, we will be continuing to develop our understanding of formal letters of complaint and beginning to write our own.
Year 3 were also excited to begin a new unit of music lessons this afternoon, which Miss Fairhurst will be teaching to each class while the other half of the year group study French with Mrs Goddard. Having spent a few terms focusing on Art in this slot, we are sure that the children will welcome this change to Music for the next few months.
Have a great weekend!
